Australia Day 2013

G'day, mate!

Not literally.

Coastal towns in south Queensland has been hit by six tornadoes in the past 48 hours. While residents of affected low-lying areas contemplated on evacuating their homes on Australia Day, the rest of the country gorged on barbies and downed beers and drifted afloat giant Havaianas floaters (Look up: The Havaianas Australia Day Thong Challenge).

My daughter Luna and I are currently staying at a self-contained studio in Brisbane's Kangaroo Point. Us too, had a drenched Australia Day. But we stayed safe indoors.

Luna raises her cup of Solo. Cheers!

Ten days ago, we moved in this studio after three weeks of bedsurfing and floorsurfing. We scored a sweet deal through a voucher that we fished online. Never mind the teensy space and the frequently inebriated college students that populate the building, we got a balcony that overlooks the historic Shafston House and Brisbane River! Plus a supermarket and a playground are just a couple of blocks down the road.

View of heritage-listed Shafton House from our balcony. It was once utilized as a repatriation hospital after World War II.

Three days into our stay, the hubby left for a series of conferences in the United States. The result of which will significantly influence our grand scheme for the next few months. I anxiously wonder when will the waiting game end.

Meanwhile, Luna and I are on an extended shindig in our studio. What else are we gonna do anyway with that insane ex-cyclone Oswald pounding on our glass door? Now folks, Luna raises her cup of Solo while I raise my cup of Australian Pink rosé... Cheers!

Happy Australia Day!

Let me guess? Most of your neigbours are students from Griffith U in South Bank or UQ in St. Lucia? How i miss Brissy but not the storms, which fortunately we were spared during our stay. Stay safe this summer :)

They're all actually from Shafston College. It's a private institution that offers diploma for English language programs :)
